Leicester firefighter Ian Nuttel went to Christchurch, New Zealand to give his assistance in the aftereffect of the recent quake in Christchurch town. After Christchurch he has travelled around the globe and gathered knowledge on seek and rescue from other teams.

Ian Nuttel was awarded with the Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship. He has travelled overseas and he wants to put his knowledge to good work. The 32 year old Ian Nuttel has visited Canada and the United States and talked to people with experiences in large scale catastrophes. He has spent a little more than five weeks with several firefighting departments. On his trip, he also talked to people who plan and train to deal with disasters and terrorist activity and also met with police officers and military units.

Ian Nuttel is happy with what he learned from his trip. He said that he learned fresh methods of firefighting and ways to solve problems.

Nuttel started his career as a fireman in 2003. Later in 2006, he chose to join the firefighting team’s procedural rescue team. In 2011 he was selected as one of the members of UK Fire and Rescue Service’s volunteer International Search and Rescue (UK ISAR) team. While working with that tem he went to New Zealand after the earthquake hit Christchurch.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust awards about 100 people every year so that they can learn about their respective careers and use it well in their own country.
